ARTIST STATEMENT
The meaning of my paintings comes from the way they are installed and interact with a space. I want to keep painting from becoming simply decoration and the wall simply a place to decorate.
The unusual display of my paintings is intentional, the neutral white background is intentional, the subject being life-size and realistic is intentional- all to emphasize the contrast between the pictorial qualities of painting and the sculptural qualities of painting.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I make installations using paintings - creating a situation or environment where interaction and lived experience occurs. I never cut out the shape of the thing I painted, I leave it in its traditional rectangular shape and give it a white background. Sometimes this looks awkward when it interacts with reality but that is exactly what I want. I want the painting to exist at the same time in it’s own space, it’s own reality, it’s own interior world (even if that world is just a neutral white space). My work is about dualities - painting existing physically in our world while simultaneously existing conceptually in its own.

BIO
I have solved Caravaggio’s murder; rang the doorbells of many amazing artists even though I am shy; carried a miniature painting around in my purse since 2008; touched La Bocca della Verita; witnessed ancient events in the middle of the night at Zuni pueblo; bribed my way through the Palio in Siena; fallen asleep against historic monuments; and become an expert rose thief.
